eSIM Phone Compatibility #
Before you can activate an eSIM, it’s important to confirm that your device is compatible. While many modern smartphones support eSIM, not all do. In this article, we’ll explain how to check if your device supports eSIM and which models are ready for digital SIM technology.
What is eSIM Compatibility? #
An eSIM (embedded SIM) is a digital version of a physical SIM card that’s built directly into your device’s hardware. To use an eSIM, your phone or tablet needs both:
- eSIM hardware support
- eSIM software support from your operating system
If either is missing, you won’t be able to use eSIM data plans.
How to Check if Your Phone Supports eSIM #
On iPhone: #
- Go to Settings > Mobile Data
- Tap Add eSIM or Add Data Plan
- If this option appears, your iPhone supports eSIM
On Android: #
- Go to Settings > Network & Internet

What If My Phone Doesn’t Support eSIM? #
If your current phone doesn’t support eSIM, you’ll need to use a traditional SIM card or consider upgrading to a newer model. Most flagship devices since 2019 have included eSIM hardware by default.
