The three methods of eSIM activation
Now, depending upon your carrier – whether you’re updating an old phone, or booting up a new one – and the device brand/model, the methods of activation may vary.
Either way, your eSIM activation will fall under one of the following:
- New device eSIM activation.
- SIM card to eSIM activation.
- QR code eSIM activation.

Switching from a SIM card to an Australian eSIM on an old device
APPLE (IOS)
Go to Settings > Mobile
Click Convert to eSIM
Click Convert to Mobile Plan
Click Convert to eSIM to complete.
Await activation (usually takes under 30 seconds).
ANDROID
Login to the eSIM network provider app on your device.
Follow the in-app prompts to generate a QR code.
Enter 4 digit eSIM confirmation code.
Wait for activation (may take 2-3 minutes).
Follow the prompts to complete eSIM activation and set preferences.

APPLE (IOS)
Locate carrier QR code.
Open the Camera app and scan the QR code.
Upon notification click Mobile Plan Detected.
Click Continue.
Click Add Mobile Plan.
Await activation (usually takes under 30 seconds).
ANDROID
Go to Settings on your device.
Click Network & Internet.
Click SIMs.
Click Download eSIM.
Click Next.
Scan the eSIM QR code provided by your Australian eSIM provider.
Tap activate.
Activating an Australian eSIM on a new device
APPLE (IOS)
Follow the prompts on the screen during setup.
Select WiFi network.
Add personal info, and follow the prompts until cellular activation is complete
Await activation (usually takes under 30 seconds).
ANDROID
Follow the prompts on screen during setup.
Once the phone setup is complete, go to Settings.
Click Network & internet.
Click SIMs.
Click Download eSIM.
Click Next.
Scan the eSIM QR code provided by your Australian eSIM provider.
Tap activate.
